I’ve recently designed a new newsletter for ACID (Anti Copying In Design). They are the UK’s leading membership and campaigning organisation for Design and Intellectual Property. A new client who was recommended to me by another of my clients… always nice to get a recommendation, let’s you know you must be doing something right.
After an initial discussion to find out what were ACID’s key objectives going forward, I set about creating some preliminary design layouts. I incorporated some new ideas and suggestions while adhering to their current brand. While it’s good to update and refresh a design/branding it’s also important to make sure the client’s existing audience is excited to see any new changes, but also feel familiar and engaged with what they are used to.
Currently 24 pages and produced 4 times a year. The majority of the content, including images and text, was supplied digitally to me via the ACID team. A few extra images were sourced or created by myself. After designing all the pages and a few rounds of checking and approving with ACID, all that had to be done was supply the final interactive pdf containing all the hyperlinks and buttons to be made into a flipbook.
The ACID newsletter is now solely digital and uploaded to their website as a flipbook to read online or download. It seeks to engage members through multiple links and invitations to webinars, events and conferences that are not so easily achieved through printed copies. The newsletter is also a valuable tool informing about new legislation regarding copyright and intellectual property that may affect its member’s businesses. Trading globally as well as members case studies, which help keep the tone friendly and human, are just some of the other articles included.

Dealing with the ACID team was a breeze; they were always on hand to answer any queries and get the job done. Here’s looking forward to the next edition…
