ACID – Anti Copying In Design
Fortunately, ACID came to me by way of recommendation. They were looking for someone to take over the design and artwork for their quarterly newsletter/magazine. We started with a few initial discussions so I could discover more about ACID and its goals and objectives going forward.
We decided the newsletter needed modernising but needed to follow a similar format and feel. My aim, therefore, has been to create a more exciting and engaging newsletter while keeping within the framework of the ACID brand.
To do this, I have introduced new graphics and images to reflect and reinforce the articles inside and improve the front cover. The front cover should always make the intended audience want to open the publication and explore the content. Otherwise, it’s not doing its job.
I have created several newsletters, and the feedback from ACID and its members has been overwhelmingly successful. Several of ACID’s members have written to congratulate them on the improvements.
Members occasionally supply images, but they may not be ideal for their intended use. For example, I created a display stand and new background in photoshop for this vase, making a far more striking cover design.
I created new graphics and images on these pages to make them more visually engaging.
This is an inside spread and front cover from issue 72. You can see on the front cover how I have introduced a bright yellow circle on the front cover, not only reinforcing the ACID branding but highlighting an article inside.
The newsletter is produced in print and digital formats. The digital version is placed on ACID’s website for reading online or downloading later. In addition, copies are printed for members who prefer a printed version and are used at events where ACID exhibits.

ACID has asked me to contribute to several other projects.
